Chickens come home to roost in Central Wisconsin

Recently, the Wausau city council decided to allow backyard chickens for it's residents. The Weston area considered, then rejected similar legislation after a presentation about chickens as pets from a local teen. The campaign continues. 

If you're interested in keeping your own backyard chickens, here are some resources for getting started with urban chicken farming!  Of course, you'll probably want some extra advice for how to keep chickens during a long, cold Wisconsin winter...Apparently chickens can actually keep themselves warm if they are given the right resources to do so... You learn something new every day.

The growing concern with sustainability and the safety of food additives and mass farming techniques has lead to a new popularity of home grown food in the cities.
